CWMS After School Sports Update

Charlotte Wood Middle School

After‑School Activities Program

($30 Tax‑Deductible Donation Per Student Per Sport)

August 2, 2018

One common trait among most successful students is their involvement in extracurricular activities. Does it build self-esteem and social skills, it actually increases their enjoyment of school, and CWMS offers a wide selection of programs to spark your child's interest. Some of the activities offered are shown below.

Our after school program is open to all students who elect to participate, as the program has a no‑cut policy. As there is no state or district funding for these programs, we rely solely on your donations in order to offer our students these opportunities. We ask for $30 per sport, a tax‑deductible donation ($80 donation to participate in all sports), during the sign-up period, to have your child participate. This will cover sports equipment, coaches, subs and other fees. The estimated cost of all our enrichment activities per each year averages about $12,000. A student can participate in as many of the After‑School Activities as he or she wishes to experience. If you are interested in serving as an coach or driver for one of the activities, or for a new one, please contact Lauren Falkner, Assistant Principal. That process includes going on line to the district website to register.

To get to the application process, you need to go to, then the parents tab, then volunteer requirements and that will get you started J From there you will just follow the directions.  You will need to upload a picture of your driver’s license and declaration page showing your limits that you carry on your vehicle, a minimum of $100,000/$300,000.  If you need help in the uploading of your documents, feel free to email a scanned copy of each to  or bring them into the front office.  Again, be sure to sign up as a daytime chaperone and daytime driver.  The clearance process sometimes takes up to 3 weeks, as the DMV gets busy.

If you have any questions regarding the After‑School Activities program, please contact Lauren Falkner or You and your child can obtain a calendar of After‑School Activities or find out about upcoming programs the following ways:

1.     The school website,, by selecting the Athletics tab (all documents for student participation can be acquired on the website, including parent permission forms, etc.).

2.     Announced during lunch for sign‑ups. This begins five days before the practices start.

3.     Published in the Charger Weekly or announced in the Daily Bulletin at school each morning.

We want the After‑School Activities experience to be a positive one for you, as well as for your child.
