CWMS Represents at Odyessey of the Mind 2013 Regionals
CWMS sponsored four dynamic Odyssey of the Minds teams who competed at the OM Regional Tournament held March 2nd. More than 200 SF Bay Area teams competed in this year's Regional Tournament held in Concord, where CWMS students presented team created problem solutions that they have worked on since October 2012 in the Technical, Classics and NASA-sponsored problem categories.
What is Odyssey of the Mind?
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Now in the 34th year, Odyssey of the Mind challenges teams of up to 7 students to find creative solutions to given problems, the solutions being in the form of a short skit.
Only the team may work on the solution, writing the script, making costumes, props, sets or designing and building vehicles or structures or presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the Regional, State, and World level.
The goal is to encourage team building, to provide creative problem-solving opportunities on a budget for students.
Parents are needed to serve as team Coaches and play other roles in Judging and Volunteering at the Regional Tournament, but may not help with the solution – OM is a totally student-planned & directed experience. That’s the fun of it.
Coaching is an amazing experience – and free Coach training is provided locally and scheduled on Saturdays in October, November & December.
CWMS is recruiting coaches and organizing teams to begin meeting in the fall and present their solutions at a Regional Tournament on March 2, 2013. San Francisco Bay Region is the largest region in California with over 140 teams participating in the tournament.
